SMS/Text Messaging

It's easy to use Drink Logger with SMS/text messaging to track your estimated blood alcohol content:

Create an account

Create your account and then edit your settings. When editing your settings, include the 10-digit number of the phone you'll be using to text Drink Logger. We need to know your phone number so that when we get the text message, we know who it came from.

Basic Usage

Send your texts to 41411

Your message must start with drinklogger followed by a command. Available commands are:

After you text us, we'll reply with your estimated BAC.

Here are examples of valid text messages sent to 41411:

When logging your drinks with SMS/text messaging you don't get to enter the size or alcohol content of your drinks as you do when using the Drink Logger site directly. The number that gets texted to Drink Logger is the "effective" number of drinks that you are having. Standard drinks are: 12 oz of beer @ 5%, 5 oz of wine @ 11%, and 1.5 oz of spirits @ 80 proof. These all correspond to "1" drink. If the size or alcohol content of your drink is different, adjust the drink accordingly - decimal values, like "1.5", are allowed.

Advanced Usage

Drink Logger also allows you to create your own customized SMS commands to use when logging drinks that you have previously saved. (Note: this functionality is only available on the web version of Drink Logger, not the mobile version.) Once you have saved drinks using Drink Logger, go to Settings and select the Saved Drinks link; you'll see a complete list of the drinks you have saved. In this display you will also see that each drink has a SMS Command value. Click the edit link on any row to enter a value for the SMS Command.

Once an SMS Command is entered for a saved drink, you can then log drinks of this saved drink type by using the SMS Command as the command section for the SMS message that is sent to Drink Logger. For example, suppose you have a saved drink that represents a pint of Guiness. You edit the saved drink in your settings and give it an SMS Command of pg. You can then log a drink of this type with the following SMS message (sending the message to 41411 as always):
